13th Annual Children's Dental Health Month Contest

The Twelth Annual National Children’s Dental Health Month Contest recently concluded with its annual awards ceremony. The awards reception was held at the Ramada Inn, Watertown. Over 200 people were present for the ceremony; including the top three winners from each school, the grand prize winners of the contest, along with their parents and family members, teachers, principals, school nurses, and the staff of Sunshine Dental, PC.

Grand Prize winners were chosen in the coloring and essay contests from all individual school winners submitted. Grand Prize Awards of U.S. Savings Bonds in the amount of $100, $75 and $50 were awarded for first, second and third places in both contests.

The annual contest, sponsored each year by Sunshine Dental, PC, Watertown, is held in conjunction with the American Dental Associations celebration of National Children’s Dental Health Month. All students who participated in the contest received a participation certificate. Gift Certificates from Staples were given to the top three students in each category, from each of the individual participating schools. In total, 57 local students received prizes for their participation in the contest.

Dr. Aeklavya Panjali, President, Sunshine Dental PC, has offered this contest to the children of the local schools as an opportunity to learn about the importance of good oral hygiene. This year’s theme “For a sparkly Smile, Remember to Brush and Floss Every Day ” was a reminder that a beautiful smile begins with healthy teeth and healthy teeth begin with good oral hygiene.

This year participation totaled 22 Schools, 74 different classes, and a total of 2463 students compared to last year with 16 schools, 47 classrooms, and over 1683 students.

This year it was the most well participated and well attended event ever, in the history of conducting this contest since 2004.
